The Gelidonya shipwreck was first discovered in 1954 by a sponge diver from Bodrum. In 1960, it became the focus of Turkey’s first academic underwater archaeological expedition, revealing that the vessel dates back to the 13th century B.C. (Late Bronze Age). While most artifacts have been recovered and are now displayed in the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, divers can still explore the ship fragments and anchor, immersing themselves in 3,200 years of maritime history.
